Description
In 1847, two stamps inscribed “POST OFFICE” — One Penny and Two Pence —
were issued in Port Louis. Of the 500 copies of each denomination, only 26 or 27
are known to exist today, depending on the source. Most remain in museum and royal
collections, which is why they appear on the market extremely rarely. This silver coin
preserves the original colours and typography, highlighting one of philately’s most
coveted subjects.
